Put the Pedal to the Metal in Amsterdam

amsterdam-bike-parking.jpgTo get a feel for how people in Amsterdam live head to the train station. Next door to it you will see a large parking structure. Nothing unusual in that, except this parking garage isn’t designed to house automobiles. It is a parking garage for bikes. Hundreds and hundreds of bikes all parked in an orderly and tidy fashion.

In a city that is as bustling as any you’ll find in Europe, the bicycle is one of the dominant features. It is widely stated that there are more bicycles in the Netherlands than there are people. A quick stroll along the streets of Amsterdam will give you a sense of just how many bikes there are.

The bicycle is just one of many features that make Amsterdam one of the most popular destinations for visitors in the world. There is the seediness of the Red Light District, the liberal policies towards drugs, the excellent art museums, and the charming canals. Amsterdam is truly one of the unique cities in the world. All you need to do is park your bicycle to see that.

There are some great deals on autumn flights to Amsterdam.
