When we look back on recent history in a hundred years, we will probably divide time into “pre-internet revolution” and “post-internet revolution.” This not entirely unlike how we now look at history in terms of pre and post Industrial Revolution.
The internet has changed how we do almost everything—how we connect to and communicate to others, how we post classifieds, how we do research, how we travel and more. We are now in an era where booking travel online seems to be about the only way to do it these days. But with the dawn of the internet and Web 2.0, it can be pretty easy to get lost in all the noise out there and be left wondering how you actually go about finding the best travel deals online. Here are a few tips on how to get the best airfares, cheapest hotel rooms and discounted vacation packages using the web:
Temperatures may be getting cooler outside, but deals on
I love to hate Las Vegas. Or should I say I hate to love Las Vegas? Maybe it’s a little bit of both. While Vegas is certainly the home of over-the-top excess, the capital of tacky and the definition of so many things I claim to dislike (especially in a travel destination) there is just something slightly irresistible about Vegas. Maybe it’s the lack of open container laws or social acceptance of day-light drinking, but despite the huge number of lakes and fountains in the desert, sky-high prices and Dinseyland for adults feeling, I have to admit Vegas is a whole lot of fun. From great shows to highly rated restaurants, adding on to the list of positives for Vegas lately have been some of the absolutely insane travel deals to Sin City that have been popping up pretty much everywhere lately.
I have long said that fall is absolutely one of the best times to visit Europe. With still agreeable weather, far fewer tourists, and lower prices on everything from airfare to hotels to car rentals, autumn is an ideal time to make the trip across the pond. Now Avis is giving travelers even more incentive to pack their bags and head to Europe this fall by offering a Fall Getaway promotion, which offers up to 20 percent off rentals for 3 days or longer in countries like France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. Reservations must be made on or before October 30 for travel through December 13.
A friend of mine got married last week, and while I enjoyed the ceremony and reception and thought she looked beautiful in her dress, the thing that really piqued my interest was how little the married couple spent on a 2 week honeymoon in Mexico.
Almost everyone is tightening their belts these days as family budgets for just about everything seem to be smaller. However, luckily you aren’t the only one who has felt the effects of the shaky economy. The travel industry has also been hard hit, making for some great deals that allow you to still take that vacation this year without having to worry about busting your budget. In fact, there are lots of offers for free nights and rewards when you book travel, including a July sale at Expedia that gives you $50 back when you book your vacation.
Pretty much everyone is feeling some kind of pinch in this economy, which means many travel booking websites have been dropping their booking fees to encourage people to still travel despite the hit many pocket books have taken. This includes Priceline, a site that already allows travelers to save money by naming their own prices for flights and hotels.
It’s a special Coupon Code Monday today because we have decided to celebrate gas prices coming down to levels that aren’t so insane, with an automatic 10% off coupon through Budget:
Most of the regular readers of this column know that I have mixed feelings about Priceline, but a deal’s a deal, so I feel compelled to point this one out:
So imagine the smile on my face when I came across this deal:
