As it happens with all large cities, it takes a bit of planning to be able to spend an affordable vacation. For example, I pre-booked the hotel in London in January and I’ll be spending there next week. So, I looked for accommodation two months in advance.
When planning to visit Sydney on a budget , you need to consider aside from the cheap flights the price of accommodation, eating and entertainment. Budget hotels in Sydney aren’t very hard to find especially if you look for rooms ahead of time. Book the rooms when you find a good price and don’t be afraid to check the prices on various booking sites. In many cases, it turns out to be cheaper to buy via a large booking site rather than on the official website of the hotel.
Finding cheap eats in Sydney isn’t that hard either. For less than $10 you’ll be able to have a good meal. These prices can be found at Chinese restaurants or take-away places specialized in Turkish food. In general, Asian food places are cheaper then the rest. Also, if you stay in a hostel with common kitchen you can shop at the market and cook your own food.
As for drinking, you should definitely check out one of the rooftop pubs in Sydney but cheaper alternatives – and excellent ones, nonetheless! can be found at hostels, for example.
As for visiting the museums, make a list of the place which can be visited for free; and for other places, make a note of the days when there’s no entrance fee. If you travel by public transport, consider purchasing daily or multi-day passes.
