Closest Airports to the Sasquatch Festival

sasquatch4Usually when you’re planning a trip you start by finding out what airports are closest to the city you’ll be visiting, and then book a flight into that airport. But when you’re planning a trip to the Sasquatch Music Festival – a big outdoor festival in (it has to be said) the middle of nowhere – then you’d be forgiven for being a little stumped about what airport to use.

The truth is that there are several airports that are legitimate choices for getting to the Sasquatch Festival. Some are bigger and busier than others, but the biggest airports aren’t the ones closest to the festival site. You might find lower prices at the bigger airports, or you might find comparable deals at smaller airports closer to the festival and therefore have less ground to cover in a car.

Whatever your first choice for airports is, it really does pay off to look at all your airport options – or at least look at a few of them – before you book your tickets. You may not be familiar enough with the area to know which airports regularly have the best fares, or which airports are preferred by budget airlines. By checking the flights into a few different airports, you’ll be better equipped to make an educated decision about which airport to choose.

>> The Sasquatch Music Festival is May 25-29, 2012.

Seattle SeaTac International Airport

One airport you definitely want to include in your search is Seattle’s SeaTac International Airport (SEA). It’s partway between Seattle and Tacoma, roughly 15 miles south of Seattle, and Seattle is about a three-hour drive from the Sasquatch festival site.

Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air both use SeaTac as a hub, and other budget airlines serving Seattle include AirTran, Frontier Airlines, jetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, and US Airways.

Portland International Airport

Portland has another international airport you might want to consider – Portland International Airport (PDX) isn’t as big as SeaTac, and Portland itself is about a five-hour drive from the Sasquatch Festival, but it doesn’t hurt to keep it in mind.

Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air also use Portland as a hub airport, and other budget carriers that fly into Portland are Frontier, jetBlue, Southwest, and US Airways.

Spokane International Airport

Spokane may surprise you by having Washington’s second-largest airport. Spokane International Airport (GEG) serves a large area in two states (Washington and Idaho), and it’s served by several major airlines. The city of Spokane is roughly a three-hour drive from the Sasquatch Festival site.

Budget airlines serving Spokane include Horizon Air, Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and US Airways.

Vancouver International Airport

If you’re contemplating the five-hour drive from Portland, then you might as well throw a five-hour drive from Vancouver, British Columbia into the mix, too – and that way, it’s a multi-country road-trip! Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is Canada’s second-busiest, so although it may not have been your first thought it’s not a bad idea to look at flying into Vancouver and driving down through Washington.

Budget airlines that fly into Vancouver include Air Canada Jazz, Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air, US Airways, and WestJet.

Smaller Regional Airports

Assuming you’ll have to change planes somewhere along your route to the Sasquatch Festival and your goal is to end up as close to the festival as possible, there are a few very small regional airports that are closer to the festival site than the airports listed above. All three of these airports have commercial service from only one airline – Horizon Air – and all of them connect with Seattle’s SeaTac airport. Which means you’ll still have to fly to SeaTac first and then hop on one of the small planes to get to these airports.

  • Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport (PUW) – Pullman, Washington
  • Yakima Air Terminal (YKM) – Yakima, Washington
  • Pangborn Memorial Airport (EAT) – Wenatchee, Washington
