Paris hotel rooms are much cheaper than last summer

If you are one of the many people who is planning a trip to Europe for this coming summer, then you probably already know that there are great bargains to be had. Paris deserves its reputation as a must-visit place, so the fact that cheap rooms can be found this summer is just icing on the cake.

Another bit of good news, in case you haven’t been to Paris before, is that unlike so many other cities, there is not one “best” hotel neighborhood in this city. The main sites are fairly spread out, so you’ll be traveling around no matter where you stay, and there are literally Metro stations every few blocks, so staying in a cheaper neighborhood a bit away from the Eiffel Tower and Louvre isn’t really much different from staying in the shadow of either of them.

But if you want to stay in the prime areas there are still great deals at the moment. The fine folks at Travelzoo are showing a 4-star hotel near the Champs Elysees (the big upscale shopping street) for €139, which is currently $185 per night. Last year you’d probably have to pay at least 50% more than this.

Expedia is listing the Brebant Hotel, which is 3 stars and centrally located, for $145 per night through June. This one is actually walking distance from most of the museums in the center, as well as the trendy Montmartre neighborhood. They are also showing the 2-star Grand Hotel De Turin starting at $115, and that one is right at the foot of Montmartre (an excellent location).

If your budget is lower you can book a room at the 2-star Villa Du Maine Hotel for $69 per night. It’s about 5 miles south of the Eiffel Tower, but it’s one block from a Metro station, so you could probably be in the long line at the Tower maybe 20 minutes after you walk out of your room. Cheap tickets to Europe are easy this year, and hotels in Europe are even cheaper, so as long as you still have a job, this is a great summer to travel there.
