Cheap Las Vegas vacation packages

Unless you’ve been living under some really big rock for the past 10 months, you’ve probably noticed that travel to just about everywhere has been pretty cheap. Airfares are way down, and with 17% fewer traveler expected to take to the air this Labor Day Weekend, you’d imagine that the airlines have been offering up some pretty sweet fare sales and package deals to encourage travelers to hit the road. There are a few destinations that are offering up some especially good deals this fall—and Vegas is certainly one of them. Southwest Airlines is offering up some Vegas vacation deals that include midweek credits at some hotels and other special offerings.
With some of the amazing hotel deals in Vegas right now, you may be better off skipping booking a vacation package deal and instead looking for a cheap flight to Vegas and then taking advantage of one of the best deals on the strip. Last week, I wrote about a fabulous deal being offered at the Wynn for rooms starting at just $139 with a $75 resort credit (this is a huge savings considering the same rooms cost several hundred dollars more just a year ago). Searching for your Vegas air ticket and Vegas hotel separately make take more time, but I actually found it was easier to take advantage of the best deals out there.
If you do go the route of booking a Vegas vacation package, there are some good prices on hotel + air deals out there. I did a search this morning on Southwest’s page for package deals from Denver, Colorado to Las Vegas and found packages starting as low as $447 for airfare and lodging for four nights in October, with a Friday and Saturday night stay. A search from Los Angeles yielded prices as low as $380 for the same weekend. If you are traveling from the East Coast, you’ll have to spend a little more money, but even a search from New York for a 4-night package deal in Vegas could cost as little as $750 total.
Another bonus to opting to fly Southwest when traveling to Vegas is you won’t have to worry about paying any of those pesky checked bag fees. While there are a few different ways you can avoid paying checked bag fees when traveling on other airlines, Southwest still allows travelers to check their first bag for free—meaning you’ll get to keep an extra $15-$50 in your pocket for booze drinks, blackjack or tickets to a Vegas show.
