Summer is officially winding down, and with the cooler temperatures and changing leaves may come a sense of loss for those hot days full of sunshine, swimsuits and plenty of play time outside. If you are already mourning the loss of summer and are ready to start thinking about a fall or winter escape from the colder weather, there are some absolutely fantastic deals in the Caribbean right now. In fact, with all-inclusives around the Caribbean offering up vacation package deals for less than $600, you’ll have more than enough to justify a little winter escape to Caribbean paradise this year—even in a down economy. “$599 Vacations to the Dominican Republic”
Cheap flights to the Dominican from the Southeast
I was lucky enough to go on great little vacation to the Dominican Republic last year. While I was not staying at one of the all-inclusive resorts offering the steep discounts, I would still highly recommend a vacation to the Dominican—just make sure you get out of that all-inclusive resort to experience a little Dominican culture while you are there.
If you aren’t so sure you are a Caribbean vacation package type of traveler, than you can still take advantage of some of the cheap flights to the Dominican and the hotel deals on the island. In fact, discount carrier Jet Blue recently announced it would be adding flights to the island. AirTran, which is offering up some fantastic fare sales right now, also has special offerings on flights to the Dominican from the southeastern United States.
Delta is another U.S. carrier now offering flights to the Caribbean from New York City—which includes airfare from New York to Santo Domingo for as lille as $129 each way (not including taxes and fees) for travel through December 13.
Where you should go in the Dominican
If wind surfing is your thing, you’ll be plenty happy to hang out near Cabarete in the Dominican—home to a beautiful beach and one of the top wind-surfing spots in the world. If you find yourself in Santo Domingo, make sure you eat a street empanada and take in a baseball game in the Dominican Republic, it’s an experience not rivaled anywhere else (think raucous fans, bottles of cheap rum and some of the best baseball players in the world).
