amsterdamFall is in the air, and with the crisper air and changing leaves also comes some absolutely fabulous deals on travel. With kids back in school and the holiday travel season still months away, autumn is actually the ideal time to save big bucks on travel o just about anywhere. Low airfares, cheap hotel rooms and a lack of crowds in tourist-filled towns make the fall months the perfect time to pack your suitcase and head out on a vacation. With plenty of cheap hotels and fare sales, there is no reason even the cash strapped in the recession can’t afford a little getaway this fall.

In fact, with a little savvy and know how, there is no reason you can’t save a ton of money on airfares both domestically and internationally. This morning, I peaked at Travelocity’s web site and noticed round-trip airfares to Mexico for as little as $149 and flights to Ireland for as little as $278 round-trip on Aer Lingus. There are a few destinations where you can find the absolutely best airfares this fall. Europe is one of them. With air tickets to Europe significantly cheaper in the fall months compared to the summer, fall is definitely a great time of year to take advantage of some of the stunning savings and hop across the pond to Europe. Especially with so many great hostels in Europe to choose from, once you’ve scored cheap international airfare you won’t have to worry about going broke paying for accommodations.

If you would rather book your airfare and hotel as part of a European vacation package, you can also save a ton of money by booking your trip this fall. In fact, according to an article from the Washington Post, European Destinations is offering deals on packages to various cities in Europe. This includes one package deal for just over $1000 per person for a 6-night trip to Prague and Vienna departing November 24 that includes airfare, three nights hotel stay in each city, high-speed train fare between the two cities and all taxes and fees. Priced alone, the Washington Post reports that price separately airfare and hotels alone would cost an extra $200 per person.

If you are looking for another destination with the best deals this fall that may be a little closer to home, heading to the Rocky Mountains may be the perfect way to say goodbye to summer. While resort towns like Aspen never seem to have an off season (popular in the summer with active biking/hiking tourists and in the winter for skiing), fall is a small sliver of time when you can actually get some great off-season deals. According to a CNN article, mountain destinations are also down 16% from last year, which combined with a great deal on airfare to Denver and a cheap hotel in Aspen, could mean for one cheap Colorado vacation.
