Cruises are among the types of travel where we have seen the biggest price drops. Mexican vacations have also been super cheap lately—so adding cruise + Mexico makes for some pretty hard to believe prices. The LA Times travel and deal blog found a deal for a fall or winter cruise excursion from southern California to Mexico for really unbelievable prices—including a deal for a 4-day Mexican cruise for just $154. Talk about a cheap and totally fabulous way to spend a long weekend.

If you were planning on booking a fall or winter vacation anyways, you may want to take advantage of the travel market out there and splurge by staying in an upscale hotel. With prices on everything from airfare to car rentals down and many hotels offering cut-rates and free nights, you may be able to afford a whole lot more hotel then you could just a year ago. Luxury hotels have been especially hard hit by the recession, which means that in an effort to keep rooms from staying empty, they are rolling out some pretty unbelievable rates on hotel rooms.
