Any time you pair the words “unlimited” and “travel” together in the same sentence you are bound to get my attention, which is exactly what JetBlue was aiming to do when they announced their new “All You Can Jet” pass for $599 this week. From September 8 to October 8. The pass allows customers to travel for business or pleasure as often as you like for 31 days (though JetBlue was careful not to include Labor Day or Presidents Day in the eligible month). While the Jet Blue Pass seems like a great deal at first, unless you are planning on taking several round-trip flights in the month or spend a lot of time on planes for business travel, this pass probably isn’t all that much of a bargain. For the casual traveler, you are probably better off just sticking to booking your travel the old-fashioned way-one flight at a time. However, if you either have a bunch of spare time to travel this September and a lot of friends and family you want to visit, or are a business traveler who is on the road a lot, the all-you-can-fly pass could potentially save you some dollars.
While there are no catches, exactly, to the pass, there are some things you should keep in mind before you punch in that credit card number and purchase it. First off, you have to book your travel at least 3 days in advance (making those last-minute travel folks not ideal candidates for this pass) and unless you change or cancel a booked flight more than 3 days in advance you will also be slapped with a change or cancellation fees.
While these stipulations may not be a big deal to the leisure traveler, the business travelers that this pass most appeals to may have problems with these rules. However, a pass like this could be perfect for an international traveler coming to the United States who is trying to fly to many different destinations during one short period of time. Either way, it’ll be interesting to see if this kind of idea takes off with other airlines or if this will be an idea that dies with JetBlue’s experiment.
