clock-tower-sighisoaraWith the holiday plans pretty much behind us, we can now start planning our next getaway. Whether you’ll be home for Christmas or visiting some distant lands, it’s always nice to be able to daydream about the next destination. And we have a suggestion for you: Europe. Sure, it’s the middle of winter and snow has already turned much of the continent into a white world, but there’s something magical about the beauty of winter, whether you escape in a ski resort or plan to visit the cities.BMI – UK to Europe Routes

Let’s talk more about the offer. You can fly from London Heathrow into Dublin, Amsterdam, Brussels and Hanover for prices starting at £40.40pp one way. Flights from different UK cities into Moscow start at £214.10pp return, while the flights to Kiev start at £183.80pp return. Once you’ve got the flight secured, it’s time to look for cheap hotels in Europe .

DIY European Tour: Itinerary idea

It’s true that Europe vacation packages come in many forms but, unfortunately, it’s hard to find tours focusing on smaller cities in Central-Eastern Europe. What if you want to spend a romantic vacation in a hidden gem, called Sighisoara. For those fascinated by the real character behind Dracula, Sighisoara is the birth-place of Vlad Dracul, the Wallachian Prince who was the real character behind Bram Stoker’s book; while those who love medieval citadels, would know by now that the Old Town of Sighisoara is one of the best preserved and still inhabited Medieval citadel in Europe. Once the snow falls on the city, it creates spectacular scenery and adds a very romantic aura to it.

But let’s start our tour. Fly from London Heathrow into Amsterdam (from £40.40pp one way). Book a hotel in Amsterdam for couple of nights and explore the city. If you want to stay in a hotel near the Centraal Station, prices start at €85 per night in early February. A much cheaper option is to choose a hostel in Amsterdam .

Now take your flight to Budapest (regular airlines: from US$102pp one way). Head to the hotel in Budapest you have already booked and enjoy the city for two days. Prices are higher in the city center, but you can choose a “panzio” for as little as €20 a night.

Then get to Keleti Train Station and take the international train directly to Sighisoara (9 or 10 hours, at most). Book a hostel right in the heart of the Old Town. During the Medieval Festival (end-of-July each summer) these are packed, but during winter it’s easy to find a bed or a private room. During the winter, prices start at €8.50pp per night . The Medieval town can be visited in just couple days.

From here, you can explore Prahova Valley and try your luck at skiing or sledding. Or head directly to Bucharest where you can catch a flight home.
