Oktoberfest travel deals

While I have never personally made it to Munich for Oktoberfest, I have long heard stories from my dad recounting drinking beers from huge heavy mugs and literally swinging from the rafters on giant rope swings attached to the roof of beer tents. While my father also has informed me that all the fun he had those few days made him pay the price (a few days spent hugging the toilet afterwards), that still hasn’t deterred me from wanting to head over to Germany to enjoy Oktoberfest myself (even if it does mean I’ll suffer for it later). Any place you combine great beer with stunning scenery and a big party, you are sure to get my interest piqued and send me on the hunt for the best travel deals to get there.
Don’t miss out an opportunity to visit Oktoberfest, Air France fares starting at $290 OW from Houston to Munich
Living in a beertopia here in the U.S. (microbrew heaven Portland, Oregon), means I have gained a healthy respect and admiration for beer over the past couple of years. However, despite being surrounded by so many great, local beers and a ton of beer festival year round, that does not mean I have not craved a trip to the original beer festival in Munich. Especially with such cheap airfare to Germany right now and plenty of great European hostels to enjoy budget accommodations, there isn’t a whole lot of reason why you couldn’t be on your way to the land of lederhosen this month.

While Air France has some pretty good offerings on airfare to Munich for the beer party in Bavaria, German airline Lufthansa is also offering a special Oktoberfest sale to Munich, with fares starting as low as $333. Plus, in addition to scoring cheap airfare, the Lufthansa flights will also be staffed by flight attendants wearing traditional attire serving up Bavarian snacks.
With Oktoberfest just around the corner, however, you shouldn’t wait long to book your cheap tickets to Munich. The sooner you book your airfare, the less money you’ll spend. If you do head to Munich for Oktoberfest, be aware that prices do tend to get jacked up at hotels in Munich around the time of the festival. With a huge international crowd descending on the city, hotel rooms in Munich can be hard to come by and will also be as expensive, if not more, than in the peak season summer months.
According to an article in USA Today, if you are looking to enjoy German beer and low fares to Germany, there are other, small and less expensive beer festivals you can enjoy. The Cannstatter Volkfest in Struggard taps kegs and allows revelers to enjoy plenty of drinking and merrymaking without having to pay for expensive hotel rooms or deal with the crowds.
If your heart is set on Munich (mine is), than there is a new web site that is promising to make it easier to find “bottom of the barrel rates” for this year’s Oktoberfest celebration in Munich. If you get too overwhelmed by the sheer number of people in the Bavarian city and can’t find a good deal on a hotel, than you may be better off searching for hotels in Frankfurt, where you can take in the festivities elsewhere.
