Hot summer travels deals to California
Growing up in the West, I was blessed with many opportunities to travel to the often sunny and very beautiful state of California several times before I even reached the age of 18. Since then, living in Oregon has brought even more opportunities to head south and hang out in the warm, sunny California rays, breath in the fog in Dan Francisco and check out the spectacular beauty of the Big Sur coastline. However, for many of those coming from far away, a California getaway may not be quite as accessible (though still totally worth it). However, with travel costs way down this summer, even those coming from further away can easily afford a little getaway to California. California Extravaganza!

Cheap Flights to San Diego
San Diego, the beautiful city by the Pacific Ocean, about two hours south of Los Angeles, has arguably the best climate in the U.S. and a healthy, laid-back attitude too. It has a great ethnic and cultural mix, and its close proximity to Mexico – Tijuana is less than 20 miles away – makes for great Mexican cafes and restaurants.
Food lovers can find excellent Latin, Central and East Asian, Middle Eastern, Italian, Greek, and Pacific Islander food throughout the city. Pick up the scent in the Gaslamp Quarter, Little Italy, La Jolla and Old Town.
The beaches, climate and deserts are not the only things on offer. San Diego has several world-class attractions including Balboa Park, America’s largest urban cultural park, which has more than a dozen museums as well as the world-famous San Diego Zoo.
Cheap Flights to Los Angeles
If it’s worth seeing, doing, or buying, Los Angeles has it. With terrific weather, easy access to the Pacific, and rich ethnic diversity, there are plenty of options. But unless you’re content seeing a very narrow slice of the City of Angels, you’ll need to have a car to make the most of your visit.
Sample exquisite cuisine from more than 140 world cultures or spend like a celebrity on Rodeo Drive. The budget-minded will enjoy free attractions like the “artrageous” Watts Towers or the beautiful Getty Museum. Many visitors take a flight to L.A. to catch a glimpse of the stars, hike the Hollywood sign, or visit the famous La Brea Tar Pits. For ocean lovers, the many beaches are a huge draw year-round.

A quick summary of California is difficult. Its variety and diversity—even its weather—are more extreme than most states. “Extreme” could sum up California: Northern and Southern Californians each claim to be a different, and separate, state; the north has old redwood forests and towns almost too small to put on a map; the south has glitz, glamour, and Hollywood stars too big to put on a map.
The common thread through California is diversity. Geographically, the state has redwood forests, the rich and fertile Central Valley, the peaks of the Sierra Nevada, deserts, and hundreds of miles of coastline. California continues to produce a wealth of creativity in both the arts and sciences, and is home to some of the leading universities in the world. Movie stars abound in LA, as do rollerblading hotties in Venice Beach, and engineers in Silicon Valley. The state is home to world-renowned cities, and people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds continue to migrate to and settle in California.
The Best of California - SF to LA for only $64 one way!
We recently returned from a weekend in LA and had a blast - even though LA isn’t really our city. Too much plastic, traffic and drivers that are looking to take a year off your life.
Thankfully, later on this summer we’re heading to San Fran, which has the traffic, but a least there’s less plastic.
However, for people that want to visit both the glam and the glitz cities, it’s now cheaper, thanks to Frontier airlines.
As a part of this introductory offer, you’ll also get free DirecTV and double bonus miles for Frontier’s EarlyReturns mileage program for travel completed by September 4, 2006.
Tickets must be purchased by June 28, 2006. A 21-day advance purchase is required. Travel is valid on or after June 29, 2006.
