Cheap Flights to Santiago, Chile
Every time I look at a map of Chile I think that all of its people must be long and narrow. The country is more than 4,600 kilometers long, while only 430 kilometers wide at its widest east-to-west point. In essence, it is the same size as the state of Texas only stretched out like an image in a funhouse mirror. I can’t help to think that Chileans must also be stretched out too even though I know they are not.
The hub of Chile is Santiago a city that has grown both up and out. With one of the most sophisticated infrastructures in South America and a strong business climate, Santiago has tall building and sprawling suburbs. It is a modern city that has not entirely lost its roots, which date back to its founding in 1541.
For the visitor, Santiago offers a wide variety of sites, cultural activities and nightlife. Some have criticized it for being a bit sterile compared to the other large cities in South America, but if you get off the main paths and into the neighborhoods you’ll find a vibrancy that is quite inviting.
Flying to Chile from the United States is never super cheap, but there are some decent deals out there right now that are worth looking into.

The towering Andes provide an awesome backdrop for the sprawling metropolis of Santiago. The population of this flat urban stage that spreads out from a compact city centre numbers more than five million. Despite this, a small town atmosphere prevails downtown where friends will more than likely meet and greet each other in the overcrowded streets and bustling walkways of the main commercial district.
The city is a curious mix of skyscrapers and 19th-century European architecture, with some Spanish adobe bungalows thrown in for good measure. Threaded through this architectural tapestry are numerous green areas, busy markets, and quaint old squares. Street life is vibrant, and adding to the vibe is the presence of numerous chic sidewalk cafes, outside of which traditionally dressed women hawk their wares hoping to catch the eye of the tourists. There are also some small but impressive museums, several modern hotels, excellent restaurants and some good shopping opportunities in the Ahumada and Huerfanos pedestrian malls.
