Travel bargain hunters may feel smug when they knock a hundred bucks off of a domestic flight cross-country to go home for the holidays, but that feeling is amplified ten-fold when they find a bigger bargain on an international flight. We all know international airfare is expensive, and justifiably so.
But there are ways to get international travel deals that don’t involve marrying a pilot or stowing away in a jet’s wheel well (we can’t comment on the intelligence of the former, but we really don’t recommend the latter).
Sometimes finding international travel deals is as simple as planning your trip at a different time of year. Sometimes it may involve planning a trip to a different destination altogether – or at least routing your travels differently than you might ordinarily think would be easiest.

The word “staycation” was officially added to the English Dictionary last week, and this horrid word (and concept) entering the lexicon is reason enough to pack your bags and show your opposition to this move by going on a REAL VACATION. Especially with just about everything in the travel world steeply discounted due to fewer passengers and hotel guests, it is also a great time to take advantage of deals on cheap international travel and leave the country. In fact, airfare to some international destinations (like Australia) are down as much as 50% or more. 
It is a good thing we have a laid back attitude or otherwise those of us who live on the West Coast of the United States might get a bit angry about always playing second fiddle to those on the right coast. Our sports teams are often ignored, our television schedules determined by those who live next to the Atlantic, and our states often overlooked by those who think the universe is centered between Washington, DC and Boston.
