Los Angeles - Travel Deals

Choosing the right airport for your trip to/from Los Angeles

Los Angeles is one of those big cities with a few airport options – but the airport that’s best for you depends largely on your budget and your itinerary. Since the area is so spread out, you’ll need to figure out which airport is closest to where you’re staying and what attractions you’ll be visiting.

Unfortunately, LA doesn’t have a city-wide airport code to make it easy to search all LA-area airports in one go. To make sure to include as many airports in the area as possible, however, be sure to check the “include nearby airports” box in the airfare search tool you use (look for similar language to that – they don’t always say the same thing).

Here’s a bit of information about each of the LA-area airports, so you can pick the best one for your trip.

Great Disneyland and Los Angeles travel deals

disneyworld1I have made it to the ripe old age of 24 and never once been to Disneyland. Despite growing up on the West Coast, my family usually opted for trips to Europe and Mexico, road trips across the U.S. and other more adventurous trips that never seemed to involved my favorite Disney characters and roller coasters. However, with some of the insane deals you can find right now on Disney vacations, now may just be the time for me to finally pack my mouse ears and go to the land where dreams are made. Sure, I may not want Cinderella’s autograph anymore, but at least I’ll be able to have a few drinks before I get on the rides. Get 2 More Days & Nights Free at Disneyland® Resorts! 5 night vacations from $169 per person, per night! Book by 8/11.

Virgin America loses its virginity on August 9, 2007

virgin_america.jpgOver the years travelers looking for cheap flights from the United States to London have come to appreciate Virgin Atlantic. The airline operated by the billionaire mogul Richard Branson offers up moderately priced flights with a bit more comfort than most transatlantic airlines.

Virgin recently launched a new branch of their airline called Virgin America. The first flight will be on August 9, 2007. The discount airline currently has five airport destinations – New York JFK, Washington Dulles, Las Vegas, San Francisco and Los Angeles. It might be limited in scope at the moment, but it is still worth a look if for nothing else its introductory flight ticket sale.

Virgin America is offering round trop flights from coast to coast for less than $300. Flights from LA to San Francisco start at $91 round trip. Any time you see a price like that it bodes well for travelers. It means other airlines will have to offer cheap flights too to keep up with their new competitors.

To get the discount prices on Virgin America you need to make your purchase by August 8, 2007.

Los Angeles to London Flights for under $350

brolly.jpgLeave it to an airline from New Zealand to come through with the best deal on flights from Los Angeles to London to hit the World Wide Web in a long, long time. Air New Zealand is offering up the goodies for $348 round-trip plus taxes and all that other jazz that will probably make it closer to $400, which is still a very, very reasonable prize for a flight from the west coast of the U.S. to London.

The only hitch is that you have to travel before May 31, 2007, which isn’t really a hitch at all because now is the off-season for London tourists. Sure you’ll likely have to deal with a bit of rain and you’ll have to pack an extra layer or three of clothing for the trip, but the payoff will come when you go to tour the Tate Museum and you and a few slacker member of the royal family are the only ones there.

What else is there to do in London this time of year besides shivering in the dampness? The London Travel guide offers up all sorts of suggestions, while also keeping you abreast of the current happenings in one of the greatest cities on this or any other planet.

Cheap Coast to Coast Flights

road_trip.jpgThe United States is a big ole country. All you need to do to appreciate its size is to take a road trip from one coast to the other. We’re talking a lot of driving and a lot of time spent looking at fast food restaurants and empty, flat farmland. There are, of course, lots of interesting and exciting things to see and do, but you’ll always remember the dull parts. Road trips are a ton of fun and if you have the time to do it, traveling from one coast to the other is well worth the effort.

If you don’t have the time or you can’t stomach the thought of listening to AM radio talk shows for 3,000 miles, you could always choose to fly and these days flying is probably cheaper than paying for gas, accommodations and food. One of the most consistently cheap airlines I have found when it comes to cross country flights is AirTran. If you book a ticket before January 18, 2007, for example, and fly before May 23, 2007 you can land yourself a round-trip ticket from Los Angeles to east coast cities like Boston, New York and Washington, DC for $260. That ain’t too shabby and it sure beats having to eat at Waffle House every other meal.

No Cal to So Cal

valley_girl.jpgLike, oh my God. Have you seen these deals on tickets from San Francisco to Los Angeles? They are to die for. $49 for a one way flight. Whatever. I’m like thinking of packing my bags and going to Hollywood. I know I can be a star. You hate me, don’t you? Well, if you, like, buy me things and stuff I’ll let you come along.
