Absurdly Cheap Flights to Cancun

passed-out.jpgNow that all the Spring Break partying is over and the college kids have gone home to chug beer in their dorms, Cancun is the place to go for bargain travelers or for those looking to get a head start on their summer tans. Like any other popular tourist destination, Cancun is not perfect. In fact, it can be downright cheesy. But cheesy can be a good thing. Sometimes you need to go to the museum. Sometimes you need to watch an Adam Sandler movie. Cancun is a Sandler movie.

The purveyor of Cancun bargains this week is Spirit Airlines, which will fly you from Fort Lauderdale to Cancun for $79 one way. Why someone who lives in a sunny part of Florida would want to depart for and equally sunny part of Mexico is a question for another day. The fact is that the cheap flights are also available from any number of the east coast cities where Spirit flies.

The hotel deals in Cancun are equally tasty this time of year with some of them practically begging for your business. Just make sure you look under your bed when you check in. You might find a passed out college kid.

Spirit Airlines Holiday Fares

mullet.jpgI always like an airline that has a sense of humor and therefore I am inclined to like Spirit Airlines. Not only are their flights among the cheapest in the business but they also have fun on their Web site. If you check out their special holiday fares, you will see that they offer discounted flights on some of the biggest holidays of the year including Ocho de Mayo, the First Tuesday in June and Last Day of the Mullet.

Do you know how hard it is to find cheap fares on the Last Day of the Mullet? It is next to impossible.

I like there, ahem, Spirit.

The rest of Spirit’s site has an informal feel that kind of sets the tone for your flight on their planes. Informal is good, in my opinion. And so are cheap airplane tickets, which they have in abundance too. They also offer vacation packages to places in the Caribbean that are more than worth checking out. My only complaint is that they don’t have more of a presence on the west coast. I don’t know what I am going to do for the Day After The 135th Day Of The Year holiday.

Spirit Airlines Presents A Very Mullet Christmas

mullet-1.jpgIt was the night before Christmas and all through the barber shop not a creature was stirring not even a mullet. Ah yes, the childhood memories that come to mind when one thinks of Christmas and mullets. There is of course that classic tale of the Grinch who Stole Christmas, which takes place in the town of Mulletville. There is also that unforgettable movie, It’s a Wonderful Mullet. And who could ever forget that the most famous reindeer of them all was shunned by his peers not because of his shiny red nose but because he was all business in the front and all party in the back? The mullet and Christmas go together like bread and butter.

Spirit Airlines captures the essence of the mullet and its place in the holiday season with its Very Mullet Christmas promotion. The airline is offering wildly discounted flights to places like Orlando and Puerto Rico. Presumably these are destinations where the mullet is revered and respected because I can think of no other reason why the airline would have such a promotion.

Get thee to a barber shop and get your mullet on today. The offer ends December 15, 2006 and the only thing worse than missing out on a good deal is missing out on a good deal while your sister wife combs your mullet.

Cheap Flights to Turks and Caicos on Spirit Airlines

turks-and-caicos-islands.jpgThe Turks and Caicos gets no respect. Type “Caicos” in your Microsoft Word document and the computer will tell you that you have spelled it wrong. You are then given the option to correct the word to “calicos.” No offense to the calicos lovers in the audience, but you’d think that by now we’d all know enough about the Turks and Caicos so that the country wouldn’t be confused with a type of cat.

So what should you know about the Turks and Caicos? Well, for one thing it is a country made up of islands in the Caribbean. For another, it has some outstanding beaches and winter weather that is likely better than where you live. Need to know anything else?

Eight of the thirty islands in the territory are inhabited, with a total population in mid-2006 of about 32,000. The majority of the population lives in the Caicos island chain. A large number of the tourists who visit are Canadian and there are some that would like to see the country form a union with Canada. Did I mention the amazing beaches and great weather yet?

How about the cost of an airline ticket to the Turks and Caicos?

Good question. This winter you can fly to paradise from Chicago for less than $300 round trip. Spirit Airlines also offers flights from various parts of the east coast, as well as Las Vegas.

Spirit Airlines Red Light Specials

cheerleaders_pic.jpg We’ve got spirit, yes we do, we’ve got spirit, how bout you?

Spirit Airlines has a regular weekly online feature it likes to call Red Light Specials. Each week the discount airline offers up some seriously discounted flights to various destinations throughout the United States and Mexico. Because most of the popular flight search engines don’t include Spirit Airlines, you won’t often find these deals when you are looking for cheap tickets.

Do yourself a favor and make sure you check out the Spirit Airlines Red Light Specials online and while you are at it you might as well sign up to receive their email updates so you don’t miss out on their awesome deals.

How to Avoid Long Lines at Disney World

disney.jpgTruth be told, I grew up mere minutes from the Happiest Place on Earth so I know a thing or two about Disney World. While I would personally never choose to spend my vacation days with Pluto, Goofy and the gang, I’m quite aware that lots of other people feel otherwise. The thing about Disney World is that you can almost always find a good deal on flights and accommodations there. Spirit Airlines has one in the works right now that isn’t bad and I’m sure you could track down others if you try. The one bit of valuable information I can give to you as an Orlando insider is how to avoid long lines while you are at the Magic Kingdom and the associated parks. Here are some tips:

1. Consider the time of year before booking your trip. Disney is the least crowded during January. Everyone is back in school, the holidays are over and spring break is still a few weeks away.
2. Start your day early. It takes awhile for families to get their butts into gear so if you get to the park right when it opens you’ll have a couple of hours of line-free fun.
3. Use your kids to your advantage. It probably won’t be greeted too well if you sneak into line, but if you send your kids to do the dirty work first and then meet up with them, you are less likely to get tossed out of the park.
4. Wheelchairs. I hope you never need to use one, but consider renting one for your Disney vacation. People in wheelchairs always get whisked to the front of the line, no question asked.
5. Don’t go. If you never step foot in Disney World you will never have to deal with the crowds. Read the truth about Disney while you vacation elsewhere.

It is as simple as that.
