Great travel deals to Austin, Texas

austinJet Blue recently caused a big stir in the travel industry when they announced they would be offering an all-you-can-fly pass for $599 that would allow travelers to fly an unlimited number of times from September 8-October 8. The pass sold out before the promotion ended, leaving many industry insiders left wondering if other airlines would follow suit and offer a similar unlimited air travel pass. However, if you did not score a deal on one of Jet Blue’s all-you-can-fly passes, then you may still be on the lookout for cheap airfares to many of their destinations—including one of my very favorite cities, Austin, Texas. You can practically smell those yellow roses of Texas right now

dont_mess_with_texas_sm.jpgTexas is a big place. You can drive your car from one side to the other in about the same time as it would take to drive across a large swath of Europe. If you ever want to feel the rush of being alone, head on out to west Texas and drive at night. You’ll hardly see a soul and you’ll hardly hear anything other than the country music coming from your radio.

While it is big and it does have plenty of emptiness to it, Texas also does just fine in the big city department. Houston is a major city with a downtown hub and suburban sprawl to prove it. Dallas goes on forever. San Antonio has its Riverwalk and that Alamo place. Austin is the liberal enclave with the university and vibrant music scene. El Paso is a rough and tumble border town. You could travel to all of these cities and find it hard to believe that you are in the same country let alone the same state.

Priceline currently has an offer on discounted flights to Texas. Choose where you want to start and then experience the enormity of the state by renting a car of flying to another city. Or simply stay in one spot and enjoy all that makes the Lone Star state unique.

Who Shot J.R. Ewing? Fly to Dallas with a Cheap Ticket and Find out

jr-ewing.jpgAnyone who has ever been to Dallas will tell you that it is exactly like the television show that goes by that name. Money is everywhere, all the people are gorgeous and the drama never stops, at least not until the hour is up and you have to wait for the exciting conclusion next week.

Ok, none of this is true, but Dallas is an interesting place to visit for business, pleasure or a little bit of both. The city has grown like crazy in recent years and has added a lot of worthwhile sights for travelers to see. Southwest Airlines is currently offering a promotion to take you to the heart of Texas for as little as $49 one-way. At prices that cheap, you might have money left over to buy an oil well or one of those pretty mansions J.R. Ewing used to have so much fun in.

Texans like to brag that their state is the biggest and best, and it does stand out—not because it’s bigger and better, but because it is one of the most diverse and interesting states. Tex-Mex started here in Texas, the Johnson Space Center and the Superdome call it home, and the Live Music Capital of the World is in Texas. There are oil derricks, cattle and cowboys. Southfork Ranch is open to the public, as is the Alamo and some of the oldest Spanish missions in the country.

While it still has wide-open ranges, Texas is also urban. It’s a leader in ranching, agriculture, and high-technology; has world-class art collections and museums; and has three of the ten largest U. S. cities. It’s a conservative state, yet one of its best known cities, Austin, is laid back, trendy, decidedly hippie-like. A true melting pot, Texas is proud of its Czech, German, Irish, and Hispanic communities.

Texans are known for their friendliness and willingness to help, whether you need directions or shelter from a storm. Maybe they do have something to brag about.

Cheap Flights to Houston

Cheap Flights to Houston

The oil and gas capital of the United States, the fourth largest city in population and second largest in area, with the first dome stadium, the largest concentration of medical institutions in the world, and of course the foremost space center—Houston exemplifies the Texas ideals of being the biggest and the best.

Houston is also very attractive, livable, and fun. There are many parks and smaller green spaces and many unusual public sculptures and fountains. Architecture is often in-your-face, and there’s no end to the odd juxtaposition of elegant and mundane, functional and whimsical. Buildings show a decided degree of originality: the name of Texas Children’s Hospital is spelled out on its sloping lawn in brightly colored letters like giant kids’ blocks; a Mayan pyramid tops a skyscraper, a parking garage has a waterfall flowing over one wall.

NASA, the rodeo, museums, the Astrodome, elegant restaurants and barbecue spots—Houston has plenty to offer. And Houstonians are among the world’s friendliest people. Never hesitate to ask for directions or information; this town, for all its sophistication, still shows the spirit of the frontier days when the pioneers all pitched in to lend a helping hand.
