Sasquatch Festival Travel Deals

sasquatch2The summer is a great time for music lovers, as it’s not difficult to populate many of the summer months with the big music festivals that take place every year around the country (and around the world). But some of the bigger festivals take place even before June – so after you go to the Coachella Festival in April, why not plan on heading north to the Sasquatch Festival in the Columbia Gorge in May?

Not only does the annual Sasquatch Festival provide an opportunity to see a fantastic lineup of some of the top musical acts in the world, it does so against a backdrop of the stunningly beautiful Columbia Gorge. It’s in the proverbial middle of nowhere, and the music combines with the superb views to make the festival unforgettable.

If you’d like to include the Sasquatch Music Festival in your itinerary this year, then here’s what you’ll need to know to travel to the Sasquatch Festival on a budget. There are links below to articles about what airports are closest to Sasquatch, finding cheap airfare to Sasquatch, and how to get to the Sasquatch site from wherever you fly into.

And, as a side note, the actual name of the festival is Sasquatch! Music Festival – with an exclamation point after the first word. Just in case you’re wondering.

How to Get to the Sasquatch Festival

sasquatch1So you’ve heard about the fabulous Sasquatch Music Festival on the beautiful Columbia River Gorge between Washington and Oregon, and you’ve decided you want to go this year. Great! Then you look at a map and try to find the festival site. You get alarmed when you have to zoom in several times before the town of Quincy, Washington appears. That’s when you start thinking, how do I even get to Sasquatch, anyway?

It’s a legitimate question. The Sasquatch Festival site couldn’t be more ideal for a big music festival – it’s in a remote location (so it won’t upset the neighbors), it takes advantage of a natural amphiteatre, and it overlooks the stunning gorge. But all that beauty, remoteness, and ability to stretch out also means that it’s not exactly just off the interstate.

Because the Sasquatch Festival is not terribly close to any of the major airports in the region, you’re going to have to make the last leg of the trip via automobile – but that doesn’t mean you have to drive the whole way, or even alone. Here are your options for getting to the Sasquatch Festival in Quincy, Washington.

Closest Airports to the Sasquatch Festival

sasquatch4Usually when you’re planning a trip you start by finding out what airports are closest to the city you’ll be visiting, and then book a flight into that airport. But when you’re planning a trip to the Sasquatch Music Festival – a big outdoor festival in (it has to be said) the middle of nowhere – then you’d be forgiven for being a little stumped about what airport to use.

The truth is that there are several airports that are legitimate choices for getting to the Sasquatch Festival. Some are bigger and busier than others, but the biggest airports aren’t the ones closest to the festival site. You might find lower prices at the bigger airports, or you might find comparable deals at smaller airports closer to the festival and therefore have less ground to cover in a car.

Whatever your first choice for airports is, it really does pay off to look at all your airport options – or at least look at a few of them – before you book your tickets. You may not be familiar enough with the area to know which airports regularly have the best fares, or which airports are preferred by budget airlines. By checking the flights into a few different airports, you’ll be better equipped to make an educated decision about which airport to choose.

How to Find Cheap Airfare to the Sasquatch Festival

sasquatch5The Sasquatch Music Festival site itself is something to behold – beautiful surroundings and a natural amphitheatre-like setting make it seem like it was meant to host music festivals. The natural beauty of the Columbia Gorge is an impressive backdrop, but the festival’s remote-ness doesn’t make it easy to plan a trip for. A festival of this size can’t really be held in the middle of a big city, it’s true – it just means you’ll need to do a bit more research when you’re looking for travel bargains.

Luckily, the Sasquatch Music Festival takes place early enough in the year that it’s not quite in the high summer travel season – that fact alone will help you save on airfare. But the festival also happens to fall on Memorial Day weekend – making it a popular time to travel in general. So you’ll need a few more tricks up your sleeve to save even more, and that’s where we come in.

The tips below will help you find cheap airfare to the Sasquatch Festival, but many of them will also help you find cheap airfare anytime and anywhere. These tips tend to be useful no matter where you’re going, but they’re also particularly useful when you’re traveling to a specific event or around a holiday when lots of other people will be flying at the same time or to the same place. Like a music festival, for instance.

Virgin America loses its virginity on August 9, 2007

virgin_america.jpgOver the years travelers looking for cheap flights from the United States to London have come to appreciate Virgin Atlantic. The airline operated by the billionaire mogul Richard Branson offers up moderately priced flights with a bit more comfort than most transatlantic airlines.

Virgin recently launched a new branch of their airline called Virgin America. The first flight will be on August 9, 2007. The discount airline currently has five airport destinations – New York JFK, Washington Dulles, Las Vegas, San Francisco and Los Angeles. It might be limited in scope at the moment, but it is still worth a look if for nothing else its introductory flight ticket sale.

Virgin America is offering round trop flights from coast to coast for less than $300. Flights from LA to San Francisco start at $91 round trip. Any time you see a price like that it bodes well for travelers. It means other airlines will have to offer cheap flights too to keep up with their new competitors.

To get the discount prices on Virgin America you need to make your purchase by August 8, 2007.

Virgin Airlines Offers Cheap Flights from Chicago/DC to London

mario.jpgI remember the first time I flew on Virgin Airlines. I was in high school and was flying from Orlando to London. The trip was memorable because it was the first time I had flown on a plane that had personal televisions for every seat. The televisions had multiple movies to choose from and there were video games. I think my Super Mario Brothers score from that trip still stands as the high score today.

Virgin played a big part in helping airlines to change the way they serve their customers. More international flights now have personal television screens and other distractions to help you forget that you are cruising at 50,000 feet in a metal box with strangers who are filling your lungs with germs. Distractions on a transatlantic flight are a very, very good thing.

Virgin Atlantic is not my favorite airline these days, but from time to time they do have specials that are hard to resist. They now have direct flights to London from Chicago and Washington, DC and lo and behold the prices are quite reasonable. The offer is only good for travel between April 23 and May 31, 2007 which means you need to start practicing your Super Mario Brothers right now if you have any shot of being my record.

Visit Washington, DC during Cheery Blossom Season

dc-cherry.jpgThe first year I lived in Washington, DC we had a ton of snow during the winter. The gloomy days were endless and the cold had even the heartiest of souls complaining. The one thing that everyone told me was that if you can survive the winter in DC (normally not that bad) there is a payoff in the form of spring. The spring months would bring pleasant temperatures without the humidity of the summer, they said, and the beautiful sights of cherry blossoms everywhere.

Washington, DC is a great place for Politicians and Travelers

vote-for-pedro.jpgThe election season is upon us here in the United States and if you are not careful you might just see a campaign commercial on television. The focus is, of course, on Washington, DC, a city that will likely be losing some residents come November, while gaining some new ones as well.

Even if you aren’t a politician, you should make an effort to visit our nation’s capital. The city has excellent museums, great restaurants, fun neighborhoods like Georgetown and Adam’s Morgan, and much, much more.

Cheap Tickets has a pretty good deal for the taking right now on flights and hotel stays in Washington, DC. Take advantage of the sale now and remember to do your patriotic duty by voting the first Tuesday in November.

Cheap Flights to Seattle

Cheap Flights to Seattle

The Space Needle, Mt. Rainier, Microsoft—these towering giants of nature, architecture, and industry all symbolize Seattle in many people’s minds. But more than anything, Seattle is a city of water (and not just the frequent rain). Seattle’s geography is defined by rivers, lakes, canals, and of course the beautiful harbor on Puget Sound with its view of the Olympic Mountains.

The waterfront is one of Seattle’s main attractions, providing shopping at Pike Place Market, restaurants, hotels, the Seattle Aquarium, and the Seattle Art Museum. From the waterfront, you can embark on a narrated cruise or a whale watch.

The Seattle Center is a two-minute monorail ride from downtown. Originally built for the 1962 world’s fair, but continually evolving, the Seattle Center is a beautifully designed complex of gardens and fountains, restaurants, shops, and theatres, and of course the Space Needle.

And for trips outside the city, you can visit Seattle’s Olympic National Park, with Lake Quinault and the Hoh Rain Forest; Mt. St. Helen’s National Park (unless the volcano is active); or the San Juan Islands.
