Australia Day Travel Deals

There are few things more fun than celebrating a country’s national holiday in that country. Even if you don’t live there, the festivities alone are usually interesting enough to outsiders and the various observances can be quite entertaining. Such is the case with Australia Day.

Australia Day is Australia’s primary national holiday. It’s an official holiday in every state and territory throughout the country, marking the day the First Fleet arrived in Sydney Cove in 1788, and is celebrated widely with things like fireworks, parades, and family picnics. It also happens to be in the middle of Australia’s summer, so it’s a great time to get out and enjoy the fun.

Australia Day is celebrated on January 26th every year, and if that date falls close to a weekend many Australians figure that’s an excellent excuse for a long weekend trip somewhere. If you’re visiting from outside the country, just about any spot will do since it’s a nationwide holiday, but it can be pretty tough to beat the fireworks displays in the big cities.

Great deals on flights to Australia

airplane-departing1Maybe it’s because I am headed to the Land Down Under myself in just about a week, but lately I have been seeing some truly fantastic deals on flights to Australia. With some round-trip fares from LA starting at just around $600, I have regularly been astonished that you can now get to the other side of the world for well under a grand—especially when flights just a year or two ago seemed to hover around $1500-$2000. Students save $150 of V Australia flights from Los Angeles to Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. Savings based on $515 Student only airfare compared to $665 published fare. Available only at www.statravel.com. Must book by May 31, 2009 for travel by September 21, 2009.

Amazing Australia Airfare

a_elmo.jpgToday’s Cheap Travel Links post is brought to you by the letter ‘A’.

  • A is for Australia, a continent-sized country that is renowned for its one of a kind geography and wildlife. It is a vast land that is home to beautiful cities like Sydney and Melbourne, while also laying claim to the world’s largest natural reef and the outback.
  • A is for airfare. Unless you are the seafaring type you are going to need to fly Down Under. This is no easy task for most of us. Australia is a long way from just about everywhere and as a result ticket prices are usually in the four figures.
  • A is for awesome. That is the only word to describe the current deal on flights to Australia found through United. We’re talking roughly $700 from Los Angeles to Sydney. It doesn’t get much lower than that.
  • A is for act now. The deal only lasts until August 31, 2007. If you don’t take advantage of it you might experience another ‘A’ the next time you book Australia airfare – Anguish.

Awesome Aussie Airfare

men-at-work.jpgThere are some that say in the land down under the women glow and the men plunder. That is a scary proposition, but is it really true? There is only one way to find out. Go to Australia and see for yourself. While you are there you can check out the Great Barrier Reef, tour around the fabulous cities of Sydney and Melbourne, wander the outback where you will only have kangaroos to keep you company, and try your best to not get the Men at Work song stuck in your head. Good luck with that.

Australia is a dream destination for many of us and really the only thing that prevents even more people from visiting it is the distance and cost involved with the travel. We can’t do anything to make that 14-hour flight any shorter, but at least you won’t have to spend the whole time thinking about the thousands you spent on an airline ticket. Not with deals like the ones currently found on United. They’ll fly you to Australia and back faster than you can say

I said, “Do you speak-a my language?”
He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich

Kangaroos, koalas, crocodiles, and the Great Barrier Reef merely top the list of things to see and do in Australia: wildlife that isn’t anywhere else in the world, the world’s oldest civilization, more than 7,000 beaches, a 110-million-year-old rainforest, and Ayers Rock in the middle of the desert.

Or perhaps you’d rather shop in Melbourne and take in a festival, go to the Sydney Opera House, or ski the Victorian Alps. Meeting the Aussies and their culture is also a great experience. People have immigrated to Australia from more than 150 countries, making it probably the most diverse nation in the world. All these cultures are reflected in the architecture, arts, and superb fusion cuisines.
