Bidding on hotels on Priceline can be a great way to save money right now

hotelsuiteIt is certainly no secret that with the economy down, airlines and hotels have been hurting. Special promotions, great travel deals and coupon codes have made travel deals a plenty lately. This tough economic climate has also made Priceline THE place to score some really amazing deals on hotels. Visit Washington, DC during Cheery Blossom Season

dc-cherry.jpgThe first year I lived in Washington, DC we had a ton of snow during the winter. The gloomy days were endless and the cold had even the heartiest of souls complaining. The one thing that everyone told me was that if you can survive the winter in DC (normally not that bad) there is a payoff in the form of spring. The spring months would bring pleasant temperatures without the humidity of the summer, they said, and the beautiful sights of cherry blossoms everywhere.

Save on New York City Hotels and Hostels

big-apple-new-york.jpgIn a city that is legendary for its $25 hamburgers and $20 beers, finding a hotel room that isn’t the same price per night as your monthly mortgage can be a real challenge. Unless you have a friend to stay with or the ability to sleep comfortably under a tree in Central Park, it is likely that you will pay a premium for a place to stay when you visit New York.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be that way. There are decent accommodations for decent prices to be found, you just need to find them. Hotels.com has an offer right now that will allow you to save 25% on New York City hotels. Considering that hotels in the city are about $25% more expensive than they are in other cities in the United States this deal basically means you can visit the Big Apple and stay for about the same price as you might elsewhere.

If those hotel prices are still too steep for you, go ahead and check out the rates on New York hostels. These run the gamut from being fleabag establishments in dodgy neighborhoods to being perfectly lovely places for you and your entire family to stay without having to take out a second mortgage.

This isn’t the first or the last time Las Vegas vacations are on Sale

klingon.jpgThere are certain things you should never do in life. You should never accept your friend’s challenge to stick your tongue to a stop sign when it is minus 20 outside. You should never marry Kevin Federline. You should never think that it is funny or ironic to have a mullet. You should never speak in Klingon. And most of all, you should never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever pay full price for a Las Vegas vacation.

Just to make things clear, you’d rather slide down a razor blade slide into a pool of alcohol than pay full price for anything related to Las Vegas.

The reason why is obvious. The fine folks who bring you the sin in the sand want you to visit and they want you to leave behind your money while at the gambling tables. They know that the cheaper they make it for you to fly to Las Vegas and the cheaper they make it for you to stay in Las Vegas, the more likely it is that your will actually go to Las Vegas.

The trick isn’t finding a great deal. The trick is walking away from the tables before you lose too much. Once you figure out that trick, let me know and we can go get a mullet cut while practicing our Klingon together.

Sizzling St. Lucia Vacation Packages

st-lucia.jpgA volcanic island, Saint Lucia is more mountainous than most islands in the Caribbean. . With Mount Gimie and the Pitons forming the volcanic backdrop to golden beaches that are next to crystal clear blue waters, Saint Lucia is arguably one of the most beautiful spots in the Caribbean.

It is also one of the more welcoming. The small population of people who call the island their home draw upon the rich traditions of their African, French and English heritage. If you listen closely, you might just hear the distinctive sounds of the Kreole language, a form of French patois. You’ll also hear the vibrant sounds of Caribbean music like soca, zouk and reggae.

One other thing you should know about Saint Lucia: it is a noble place. The island boasts two Nobel laureates to its name, giving it the highest ration of Nobel prize winners to population size in the world. You’ll get smart just going there!

You’d also be smart to take advantage of the incredible package deals to Saint Lucia that are currently available. To be able to fly to and stay in paradise for five nights and under $800 is too good to pass up.

Travel to Tampa Bay Today

tampa-skyline.JPGWhile Orlando and Miami get their fare share of the travel attention, Tampa Bay quietly exists as arguably the coolest city in Florida. Yes, the Tampa area and the Gulf Coast does have a reputation for being the home to people who are closer to the end of life than beginning, but if you spend time in the city itself you will find that Tampa Bay has a burgeoning nightlife scene and a very young feel to it.

No trip to Tampa is complete without a night out on the town at Ybor City. Once the home of Tampa’s cigar making industry, today Ybor City attracts tens of thousands of people who are drawn to its clubs and bars each weekend. The scene can be admittedly a little cheesy but if you are on vacation and want to let your hair down while surrounding yourself with alcohol guzzling folk than head to Ybor City on a weekend night.

As for the rest of Tampa, there are the standard tourist attractions like Busch Gardens, as well as a very cool Salvador Dali museum in nearby St. Petersburg. The city also offers access to great beaches and the ocean. In short, you can have an Orlando and Miami type of experience in Tampa without having to deal with the Orlando and Miami type crowds.

Travelocity has the goods on deals to Tampa, Florida.

You can be the King of the Hill with these Cheap New York Packages

gray-line-bus.jpgThere are a lot of cities in this world where you have to ask yourself how are you going to spend a few days without falling into a bored state that will leave you drooling from your mouth. New York City is not one of those places. Instead, the biggest challenge one faces when visiting the Big Apple is what not to do. After all, you only have so much time and with so many enticing activities trying to experience all of New York would take a lifetime.

The one knock against New York that you always hear from people visiting from out of town is that it is expensive. You hear about the legendary $30 hamburgers and $25 pints of beer. It is more than true that you can spend those kind of prices if you go to certain parts of the city and certain establishments, but I am here to tell you that you can have a perfectly enjoyable long weekend in New York without having to take out a second mortgage.

Instead of going to a fancy restaurant where the beautiful people go to be seen, try one of the cities many ethnic dining establishments. You’d be amazed at how cheap a bowl of noodles in Chinatown can be and how good it can taste.

Another way to save money is to sign up for a flight/hotel package deal. Chances are you will be so busy seeing the sights that you won’t spend much time in your hotel anyway. Priceline has some great New York packages that include flights and hotel stays at convenient hotels that won’t leave you saying wow, but also won’t leave you saying yikes.

New York can be done on the cheap. The New York Pass can help. Just don’t expect to see it all in a few days.

A Cozy Cozumel Vacation Deal

turtle.jpgFor an island that is merely 30 miles long and 10 miles wide and with the highest natural point a mere 15 meters above seas level, Cozumel has a lot to offer. The popular vacation destination located off the eastern coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula has an incredible amount of biodiversity and some of the best scuba diving you can find anywhere in the world.

Jacques Cousteau made the waters of Cozumel famous in the 1960s and as a result there was an explosion of scuba diving around its legendary coral reefs. In 1996, the government of Mexico also established the Cozumel Reefs National Marine Park, forbidding anyone from touching or removing any marine life within the park boundaries.

In addition to the fun you can have underwater, Cozumel offers some beautiful beaches and an active nightlife geared tourists those looking to party while on holiday.

Travelocity is offering a vacation package that is a tremendous value. You can fly to Cozumel and stay at the three-star El Cozumeleno Beach Resort for three nights for about the same as you would normally pay just for an airplane ticket. The resort is located on the northern hotel zone of Cozumel and is just five minutes from downtown and it is right across the street from an 18-hole golf course.

What more could you ask for?
