How to Find the Best Travel Deals using Popular Search Engines

By Bob | Permalink

openingmonitor.jpgThe Internet has revolutionized the way in which we find airline tickets, hotels and vacation packages. Back in the old days, you had to trudge on over to your local travel agent and wait for them to come up with the prices on your various options. It was time consuming and often you ended getting deals that benefited the travel agents more than they benefited you.

These days anyone with a computer and an Internet connection can be their own travel agent. If you are reading this post, I’m going to ... [Read this entry]

College: The Best Eight Years of My Life

By Bob | Permalink

college.jpgYou know something, I like the airline search engine Kayak.com. The thing works pretty darn well and they send out emails that have a bit of personality to them. Just today, I received one that is all about going back to college. Even though I am not a student, I was intrigued enough to read that they have some good deals brewing at four locations where the really smart kids hang out.

Before you get all afraid and have visions of sitting in musty library ... [Read this entry]

US hotel capacity expanding faster than demand

By Court | Permalink

According to PFK Consulting, there will be some excess rooms available in most major US cities next year.

Construction and recent building has added to the supply, and demand is not growing quite as strongly.

What does this mean for cheap travelers? An excess of rooms to be sold at great rates on Kayak, Travelocity and other travel sites. However, the discrepancy is not high enough that travelers should expect available rooms during peak travel periods or events.

Kayak.com Fare Buzz

We were trolling around on Kayak the other day and noticed a cool new feature.

The ‘buzz away’ section highlights the most searched-for routes departing from your city in the past two days, and highlights them in various colors, depending on their price range.

This way, you can see what has the best deals, where people are going, and what’s available from your city, all in one place!

To get to the buzz away section, go to Kayak and click on ‘Fare Buzz’

Kayak - seach 100 sites at once

By Court | Permalink

We have these issues with airlines. We hate how prices are constantly changing on tickets, making us stressed out when we know we have to find a flight home for our brother’s high school graduation. And, now that there are multiple search engines to serach (like Orbitz, Travelocity, etc), we get even more confused!

Thankfully, that’s where Kayak comes in. Kayak lets us do all of our searching - in one place! We love the fact it can ‘check the checkers’ and takes us directly to the site to book. Now, if they ... [Read this entry]

How to use different ticket sites to find low airfares

By BootsnAll | Permalink

There are dozens of online airfare booking sites out there today, and each one clamors that they’ve got the best deals. But which one really does?

It depends. A deal, after all, isn’t just about price: how does a particular ticket or itinerary fit your schedule? Can you fly red-eye? Will that cheaper fare get you to your sister’s wedding on time, or do you need to specify when you arrive, and not leave it up to a computer? What about frequent-flier miles – will you get them? Can you use them?

It isn’t just what you want out of price that ... [Read this entry]
