Spring Forward: Save Money on Flights to Amsterdam and Other Destinations

By Bob | Permalink

coil-spring.jpgIt is always interesting to see how people react to the coming of spring. Some people come out of their winter hibernation and are full of life. Others find that the sunshine and flowers are a reason to fall head over heels in love. And then there are people who wish it were dark and cloudy all year long. I actually no someone who gets very depressed with the start of spring. Strange fellow, he is, but ours is a diverse world and we all must do our ... [Read this entry]

It’s a great time to purchase tickets to the big city hubs

By Bob | Permalink

big-city.jpgWhen you live in a big city you often have to pay a premium. Your rent is higher than it would be if you lived in the boonies, the price of milk is about the same as a bottle of scotch somewhere else and a night out on the town requires a couple of different credit cards so you don’t max out your credit. Big city life is expensive but it also has its benefits. One of the benefits is that you can often get the best deals on airline ... [Read this entry]

Save a hundred bucks on Caribbean vacation packages

By Bob | Permalink

carib.jpgDifferent people travel to the Caribbean for different reasons. Some go to sit on the beach and to soak up the sun. Others go to throw on an oxygen tank and to see what those creatures are up to underneath the sea. Still others go to lap up the culture of the region. And others go to escape the long arm of the law. If you are one of those escaping the long arm of the law types this deal probably isn’t for you. If you are ... [Read this entry]

Save $50 on Mexican and Caribbean Vacation Packages

By Bob | Permalink

fifty.jpgBack in the good old days if you had $50 to spend in Mexico you could live high on the hog for weeks. That isn’t the case as much nowadays. Mexico is not nearly as cheap of a travel destination as it used to be, especially if you are in one of the resort areas like Puerto Vallarta. Still, if you get away from the tourist traps and go out to a local market you could purchase some local items for $50 and come away with a handful of goods ... [Read this entry]

A Diamond of a Sale: Alaska Airlines Turns 75

By Bob | Permalink

diamond.jpgFor those who are lucky enough to stay married for 75 years and still have their wits about them, there is a great reward. The traditional gift for a 75th wedding anniversary is a diamond. The modern gift is gold. Either way I think that if you are able to love someone for that long you deserve more than just precious jewels. You deserve a medal of honor and a statue in Washington, DC.

As part of their celebration of being in business for 75 years, Alaska Airlines will ... [Read this entry]

Feed your Shopping Addiction and Fly to the Mall of America

By Bob | Permalink

orange-julius.jpgIs there anything more American than the shopping mall? Many a teenage kid has experienced his first kiss in one, usually somewhere near the Orange Julius stand. I’m not sure what they put in those drinks but there must be a chemical that brings out the worst of teenage hormones. And then there is Spencer’s Gifts which is where many an American child has gone to learn about the birds and the bees. Posters of scantily clad supermodels can do wonders in terms of teaching human anatomy.

Indeed, the shopping ... [Read this entry]

Spirit Airlines Holiday Fares

By Bob | Permalink

mullet.jpgI always like an airline that has a sense of humor and therefore I am inclined to like Spirit Airlines. Not only are their flights among the cheapest in the business but they also have fun on their Web site. If you check out their special holiday fares, you will see that they offer discounted flights on some of the biggest holidays of the year including Ocho de Mayo, the First Tuesday in June and Last Day of the Mullet.

Do you know how hard it is to find ... [Read this entry]

Cheap Flights to Santiago, Chile

By Bob | Permalink

santiago.jpgEvery time I look at a map of Chile I think that all of its people must be long and narrow. The country is more than 4,600 kilometers long, while only 430 kilometers wide at its widest east-to-west point. In essence, it is the same size as the state of Texas only stretched out like an image in a funhouse mirror. I can’t help to think that Chileans must also be stretched out too even though I know they are not.

The hub of Chile is Santiago a city that has ... [Read this entry]

Visit Washington, DC during Cheery Blossom Season

By Bob | Permalink

dc-cherry.jpgThe first year I lived in Washington, DC we had a ton of snow during the winter. The gloomy days were endless and the cold had even the heartiest of souls complaining. The one thing that everyone told me was that if you can survive the winter in DC (normally not that bad) there is a payoff in the form of spring. The spring months would bring pleasant temperatures without the humidity of the summer, they said, and the beautiful sights of cherry blossoms everywhere.

They were right. Spring in ... [Read this entry]

It’s not too late to fly to Cancun for Cheap for Spring Break

By Bob | Permalink

cancun-spring-break.jpgBack when I was in college the first thing I did each year was finalize my Spring Break plans. Forget figuring out my class schedule, never mind paying for textbooks, it was that delightful time off in the spring that was always my top priority. You would have no trouble seeing that if you took a look at my transcript. Fortunately I burned all records of my scholastic achievement so you’ll never know how awful I did on the Astronomy 101 final.

Realizing that my Spring Break planning was the exception ... [Read this entry]
