Flights to Düsseldorf and Brussels on Sale
It widely known around the world that Düsseldorf, Germany is ranked fifth as the city with the best quality of life. You knew that already, didn’t you? Yea, neither did I until I was proudly told that little fact by a friend who lives in the capital of the German Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Perhaps one of the reasons that life has such high quality in Düsseldorf is that it is a city that has been an economic success in postwar Germany. It is one of the country’s fashion centers, as well as being a Mecca for the advertising industry in Europe. It is now also home to a bustling Internet sector.
None of these things likely matters to you as a traveler. You just want to know why you should go there and how much it is going to cost you. The high quality of life is one attraction for sure. People generally don’t enjoy living in crappy locations so you can bet that Düsseldorf is pretty darn nice.
As for the price factor, Northwest Airlines has just introduced direct flights to Düsseldorf and Brussels. As a result, it is much easier and much cheaper to fly to the fifth best quality of life city on this planet.
Spring Forward: Save Money on Flights to Amsterdam and Other Destinations
It is always interesting to see how people react to the coming of spring. Some people come out of their winter hibernation and are full of life. Others find that the sunshine and flowers are a reason to fall head over heels in love. And then there are people who wish it were dark and cloudy all year long. I actually no someone who gets very depressed with the start of spring. Strange fellow, he is, but ours is a diverse world and we all must do our best to get along.
Spring is the season of rebirth and where optimism rules. It is also the last time that you will see decent prices on flights to Europe and other far away destinations. Come summer the prices go up and so do the crowds of people carrying their fancy new digital cameras and fanny packs. As nice as spring might be where you live, it is even nicer in Europe where you can enjoy the sights without the crowds and without the summer heat.
Northwest Airlines has a deal on spring flights to Europe and destinations throughout the United States. You can fly to Amsterdam for about $550 round-trip, for example. The offer is only good if you purchase a ticket before April 9, 2007 and if you complete your Trans-Atlantic travel by May 17, 2007.
Have a joyous and healthy spring.
Feed your Shopping Addiction and Fly to the Mall of America
Is there anything more American than the shopping mall? Many a teenage kid has experienced his first kiss in one, usually somewhere near the Orange Julius stand. I’m not sure what they put in those drinks but there must be a chemical that brings out the worst of teenage hormones. And then there is Spencer’s Gifts which is where many an American child has gone to learn about the birds and the bees. Posters of scantily clad supermodels can do wonders in terms of teaching human anatomy.
Indeed, the shopping mall is a wonderful place that elicits nothing but fond memories. Fond memories that usually don’t include actual shopping. That just isn’t my thing, but I know that I am a minority in this department. After all, every time I go to the shopping mall to play Pac-man and to eat a hotdog on a stick I see plenty of folks strolling about with bags filled with purchased items.
If you are one of those people who go to a mall to actually shop, the Mall of America in Minneapolis is probably your Mecca. If you are like me and prefer to sneak smokes in the mall parking lot and to try to sneak into shopping mall movie theaters, the Mall of America offers plenty of non-shopping diversions too.
Northwest Airlines has a deal where you can save money on all kinds of Mall of America things. Enjoy your Orange Julius.

Huntsville, AL: Space Camp from $369
Stand under the “full stack” of a space shuttle, experience G-Force, and journey to Jupiter in the stellar birthplace of the rocket ship.
Head to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center to experience three times the force of gravity in the spinning “G-Force Accelerator.” We did this in May and would suggest NOT eating immediately beforehand. Stand under a “full stack,” consisting of the Space Shuttle, an external tank and two rocket boosters (Huntsville’s the only place in the world where it’s permitted), and maneuver through space aboard the “Journey to Jupiter.” The Center also features the Spacedome Omnimax theater, which plays documentary footage of astronauts in orbit, and a virtual tour of the Space Station under construction.
Other Things to do with Miles
We’ve heard this for awhile now, but today we decided to actually check it out: what else can you do with your miles, besides redeem them for never-available seats (or, what can you do with those miscellaneous miles that will never-quite-reach-a-ticket level?)
For our sleuthing, we discovered a few unusual things that the airlines are doing.
With United Air Lines miles, you can bid on auctions.
If you’re a member of NWA’s WorldPerks, why not use some extra miles to donate to a good cause, or order a magazine? Delta also offers magazines for miles.
For AmericanAirlines frequent flyer program, you can simply save up for hotel reservations and rentals.
Northwest Airlines WorldPerks Survey
Northwest Airlines is asking some questions of their frequent flyers. Having just flown them this weekend, I had a few suggestions. I think it’s good they’re looking for feedback, but even their survey could have used some work - there wasn’t an option for ‘don’t know/don’t use’ so I’m giving my opinion on items I don’t even know about. Opps.
In your opinion, what are we doing right? What could we be doing better? At Northwest Airlines, we want to provide valued customers like you the best possible service every time you fly – and with that goal in mind, we’re hoping you’ll share some of your experiences and opinions with us.
We have selected you to participate in our 2006 WorldPerks Customer Satisfaction Survey, which is designed to help us better understand your travel habits and preferences. No matter if you travel frequently or just occasionally, we’re interested in your feedback. Please click on the link below to complete the survey before June 18, 2006. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. To thank you for your participation, we will credit your WorldPerks account with 1,000 Bonus Miles after you complete the survey.
