Big savings for those who plan ahead AND book at the last minute

resortI have always been a bit of a procrastinator. Much to my mother’s dismay, I always wait until the last minute to do a lot of things—like pack my bags (she’s always packed at least a week in advance), plan my next trip, write that term paper or do my taxes. While my strategy of waiting until the last minute to do things usually induces a little more stress than necessary, it has never actually bitten me in the ass too bad. Even when it comes to travel, I’m usually pretty good at scoring a great last-minute deal on everything from airfare to my hotel (especially in today’s buyer’s market travel world). Despite my procrastinating habits, I do realize that sometimes it pays to plan ahead. Especially when planning ahead can save you 40%. Travelocity Early Bird Sale! Incredible savings in Mexico right now

mexicogirlbeachNothing quite matches the euphoria of when you finally hit that “book now” button after deciding to make travel plans. I will say, however, that better than the euphoria of finally booking that trip is getting a $200 refund check after you hit that “book now” button. If you’ve spent any time lately checking out some of the amazing travel deals out there, you know that the travel industry is struggling to get people to book those summer trips this year. In an effort to attract attention and encourage folks to still hit the road, airlines and hotels are continually trying to one up one another with better and better travel offers (like this one on United). SAVE up to $200 w/ promo code GROW!
Enjoy the great outdoors with free nights & more! Book by 6/15.

Save on 2008 Hawaii Vacation Packages

hawaii-vacation.jpgIt usually happens the first autumn morning when you go outside and your hands instantaneously fell numb. Your breath if visible, you are cursing yourself for forgetting where you put your warm winter jacket and the thought of having to shovel the driveway sends a chill down your spine. You know that winter is still a few weeks away, but there is no avoiding it again this year. Your only escape, other than moving to warmer climes, is to take a vacation. A vacation to someplace where you won’t see your breath and where your hands will not go numb. A place where the sun shines in the winter and where a winter jacket is superfluous. Someplace like Hawaii. Ah yes, Hawaii.

Now is the time to book your Hawaiian vacation and United Vacations is standing by to help. They have their usual savings on trips to the islands. The more you spend, the more you save. You know the deal. What you might not know is that there is a lot to do in Hawaii that does not involve being crammed into a confined space with other pasty tourists from the US. That is where the Hawaii Travel Guide logue can help. It has all kinds of information about what to do, where to go and what to eat while you are escaping winter in paradise.

Save a hundred bucks on Caribbean vacation packages

carib.jpgDifferent people travel to the Caribbean for different reasons. Some go to sit on the beach and to soak up the sun. Others go to throw on an oxygen tank and to see what those creatures are up to underneath the sea. Still others go to lap up the culture of the region. And others go to escape the long arm of the law. If you are one of those escaping the long arm of the law types this deal probably isn’t for you. If you are one of those people who legally want to go to the Caribbean, read on.

If you act fast – by fast I mean before March 31, 2007 – you can get $100 off of a Caribbean vacation package. All you need to do is whip out your MasterCard, book a flight and hotel trip for five days or longer through Travelocity, punch in the magic code Caribbean100 and you are on your way to a relaxing vacation away from the everyday hustle, bustle and bank robbing stress.

The offer is particularly attractive since it includes hotel options that range from simple to ritzy in places like Barbados, Bermuda, Puerto Rico and St. Lucia.

Spring Break and Easter Flights for the Family

kid-frog.jpgBefore I discovered the joys of watching bikinis walk by while sipping on a beer at the beach, I used to love taking Spring Break trips with my family. We would all joyfully pack our swimsuits and sunscreen and head for warmer climes in Florida. After about 20 minutes of playing in a hotel pool, my pasty white northern winter skin would be a stunning shade of red. I would spend the rest of the vacation alternatively lamenting the fact that I had to wear a t-shirt while swimming and picking dead skin off my body when on land.

Those are the memories of a traveler. I have many more memories from those Spring Break and Easter trips and for that I am most thankful for my parents. Sometimes it is hard to get the time off from work to travel or to find the money to do so, but my parents were able to pull things together even if it only meant leaving the snow and the cold for a few days.

Travel over Easter and Spring Break is not always very cheap and this year is likely to be no exception. There are, however, still some deals on Spring Break and Easter airfares out there that won’t leave you feeling like a 10-year-old with burned, peeling skin, but you have to act fast to get them.

Say Hola to Mexico for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Winter Vacations

south-of-the-border.jpgIn a lot of parts of the United States, this is the time of year when people start thinking about heading south for the holidays or to escape the long, dark cold days of winter. Resorts in Mexico are a popular place to escape to for a number of reasons. They offer sand, sun and a bit of foreign culture all for prices that won’t break the bank. Plus, for many people, especially those on the west coast, Mexico is an easy flight away.

Alaska Airlines is making it even easier to head South of the Border this year with an increased number of direct flights from Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles to various cities in Mexico. Take advantage of these deals to get away for the holidays or to work in a long weekend of sun worshipping.

College: The Best Eight Years of My Life

college.jpgYou know something, I like the airline search engine Kayak.com. The thing works pretty darn well and they send out emails that have a bit of personality to them. Just today, I received one that is all about going back to college. Even though I am not a student, I was intrigued enough to read that they have some good deals brewing at four locations where the really smart kids hang out.

Before you get all afraid and have visions of sitting in musty library stacks dancing through your head, consider the four brainy spots: San Francisco, Boston, London and Bologna. Even if you pack a dunce cap with you when you go to these places, you’ll have a good time.
