Cheap Flights to Chicago

Why go: Chicago, with its varied and eclectic sampling of modern architecture, rests on the shores of Lake Michigan in the heart of the American Midwest. Jean Baptiste Point du Sable, a fur trader from Santo Domingo of French-African descent, built the first settlement in 1779 at the mouth of the Chicago River. Access to transportation played a key role in the development of Chicago and continues today.

A trip to Chicago isn’t complete without touring the Loop, a term that pays homage to the busiest elevated train system in the world, the Chicago L (or El), but also refers the largest downtown business district, second only to Manhattan, and to the shopping bonanza nearby which includes Chicago’s famous Marshall Field’s department store, with it’s traditional Christmas window displays.

Surrounding the Loop is the Chicago River, which manages to survive the annual tradition of dyeing the river green in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

And, don’t leave Chicago without trying some “Chicago-style” deep-dish pizza or a juicy Porterhouse steak at Morton’s.
