Aloft gliding over the island, surfing, paddling a kayak, cruising on a tour boat, scuba diving, walking, bicycling, horseback riding—there are as many ways to explore the island of O’ahu as you can imagine.
Honolulu is the largest city in Hawai’i and its tourist center is the resort suburb of Waikiki. There are attractions in both Honolulu and Waikiki, but the main attraction is O’ahu itself.
The museums and historic and cultural sites will immerse you in Hawaiian culture and lore. Waikiki Beach provides an introduction to water activities and surfing. For pounding surf, take a drive to the north shore and visit its magnificent beaches. In the winter, grab a seat on the bleachers and watch the professional surfers compete on the north shore’s monster waves.
Possibly the biggest attraction is the geography. O’ahu has mountain ranges, valleys, extinct volcanoes, and dry gulches. And the best site is sitting on the lanai and watching the sun set into the Pacific.
Take a deep breath, smile. You’re going to paradise.
