You are then given the option to correct the word to “calicos.” No offense to the calicos lovers in the audience, but you’d think that by now we’d all know enough about the Turks and Caicos so that the country wouldn’t be confused with a type of cat.

So what should you know about the Turks and Caicos? Well, for one thing it is a country made up of islands in the Caribbean. For another, it has some outstanding beaches and winter weather that is likely better than where you live. Need to know anything else?

Eight of the thirty islands in the territory are inhabited, with a total population in mid-2006 of about 32,000. The majority of the population lives in the Caicos island chain.
