Labor Day has come and gone and there seems to be autumn crispness to the air now that summer has officially ended. But, while the weather still may be nice and warm for another few weeks, the changing leaves mean it’s time to start thinking about planning your winter vacation and your escape from winter weather to sunnier and warmer locales. Since I spent every winter visiting my grandparents and enjoying a Florida vacation, I jumped when I saw that Jet Blue was offering some pretty fantastic deals on flights to the Sunshine state. Fall is also an ideal time to book a Disney World vacation. With fewer crowds and cooler temperatures (because who wants to wait for Space Mountain with sweat dripping down you back?), fall is an ideal time to both avoid the lines and hot temperatures and score some great deals. According to an article from CNN, fall is shoulder season in Florida, which means heading to Orlando or other Florida destinations are ideal in the autumn months, when you can avoid lines and even have the beach to yourself in some places along the coast.
If you would rather avoid the Disney scene in Orlando and are dreaming of a beach trip, you can head to Palm Beach county in southern Florida. Since this was where my snowbird grandparents used to spend their winters, I can’t say I’m not partial to the lovely beaches in this area of the state. Once you’ve scored cheap airfare to Florida, there are also plenty of hotel deals that can help you stretch your dollar. The Sandy House, a boutique hotel in Delray Beach is offering seasonal specials where you get the third night free.
If you are already starting to plan your Halloween costume (I am) and want somewhere great to celebrate the holiday, Florida could be the perfect choice. Key West puts on one of its biggest celebrations of the year between October 23 and November 1 called Fantasy Fest. Themed “Villains, vixens and vampires” this year, Key West will host masquerade balls, costume contests and a parade on October 31. Will many of the events are free, you will want to make sure you book your cheap hotel in Key West well in advance, so you make sure you have a place to stay during the festivities.
