Travel to Roatan, Honduras? Why not?

roatan.jpgSometimes the most joy in life comes from doing completely random things. Wake up in the morning, close your eyes and pick an outfit out of your closet. Don’t pay any attention to whether or not it matches. Or get in your car and just make right hand turns for an hour and see where you end up. Or pick up a globe, spin it around and decide to make your next trip the destination where your finger points.

Another option is to scan a list of cheap airline prices and to pick the cheapest. That is what I decided to do and I came up with a round-trip flight from Miami, Florida to Roatan, Honduras. I am a fairly knowledgeable person when it comes to geography but I will admit to having been ignorant when it came to Roatan, Honduras. I am no longer as ignorant.

It turns out that Roatan is an island located in the Honduras Bay Islands chain. It is located near a large barrier reef in the Caribbean Sea and it is a popular cruising and diving destination. The main language on the island is Creole because it used to be part of the British Caribbean. It is renowned for its beauty but faces great environmental challenges.

In short, Roatan is an utterly random and interesting place that I now want to visit. Go ahead and give yourself the same challenge. Check out the cheap prices on flights to Latin America and pick your random destination. At least your clothes will match when you visit there.
